1Heart Cares Foundation Champions Senior Health at Simi Valley Senior Wellness Expo

The 1Heart Cares Foundation proudly participated in the Senior Wellness Expo held at the Simi Valley Civic Center, a highly anticipated community event organized by the Simi Valley Senior Center in collaboration with the Simi Valley Council on Aging. With a strong commitment to promoting senior health and wellness, 1Heart Cares brought vital vision care services directly to the community—completely free of charge.
 
👁️ Free Vision Services: Caring for What Matters Most
At the heart of 1Heart Cares Foundation’s booth was a dedicated vision care station led by Annie Ashurov, a licensed optician from Mobile Eyes Now. Through Annie's expertise and heartfelt service, over 75 seniors received:
  • Free vision assessments
  • Complimentary reading glasses
  • Eyeglass cleaning and adjustments
  • Minor eyewear repairs
These services were especially meaningful to attendees who might otherwise lack access to eye care—a reminder of how small interventions can make a significant difference in everyday life.

Recent Highlight: Free Advanced Family Caregiver Training

1Heart Cares Foundation proudly sponsored a free advanced training seminar by Ellen Samson, a Geriatric Care Manager with extensive training and experience in Senior Care Management and Dementia Care for family caregivers on the topic:
"Navigating Challenging Behaviors in Dementia Care: Strategies for Home-Based Support"
Held at the Conference Room of 1Heart- Encino, the seminar welcomed 27 dedicated participants, many of whom care for loved ones at home. The session offered tools to better manage behavioral symptoms of dementia, enhance communication, and reduce caregiver stress.
Feedback from attendees emphasized the value of expert guidance, practical techniques, and the emotional relief of connecting with others facing similar challenges.

When Fire Struck, Compassion Answered: 1Heart Cares Stands with the Community

​During the first week of January 2025, when the devastating Eaton Wildfire forced hundreds of residents in Altadena and Pasadena to evacuate their homes, the Foundation was on the frontlines. Volunteers from 1Heart Cares mobilized quickly—coordinating with local organizations and relief partners like the American Red Cross to distribute essential supplies, blankets, and hot meals to displaced families.

The Foundation’s compassionate team worked tirelessly at emergency shelters, offering not only material aid but also emotional support and reassurance to evacuees facing uncertainty and loss. Their presence brought comfort and hope in a time of fear, reflecting their unwavering commitment to community care and resilience.
